Innocently enough I began my day with a bowl of Kellogg’s Start (bought from Asda for those who are struggling to find it), I used to like it as a kid and this was the first time I’d seen it, although I had heard rumours of it’s existence.

This blast from the past led to my un-interesting post on twitter:

“I’ve rediscovered Kellogg’s “Start” - it appears to be giving me super-human writing skills today. I highly recommend it.”

This triggered a reply from SEO kingpin @discuit:

“Does it have a picture of Steve Cram on it?”

me: haha no, but it really should. Good call

I then spent the next 5 minutes trying to find an image of the famous Start box featuring Steve Cram from 1984.  Sadly I couldn’t find one, so I let @discuit know:

“I just spent 5 minutes looking for an image of a 90’s box of Start with Steve Cram on it. Sadly to no avail.”

discuit was equally keen to find this box: “it will be there somewhere, i’ll go look”.

5 minutes later discuit had also come up against the same brick wall:“I failed. I might email kellogs requesting.”

Whilst he can’t spell Kellogg’s you have to admire his enthusiasm.

Both of us know our way round Google, so if we couldn’t find it there wasn’t much hope, but wait, we don’t give up that easily.  Discuit and I took this to Googlechat and pooled our resources, I would try Twitter, he would email Kellogg’s.

We discovered very quickly that the Kellogg’s twitter account is not @Kelloggs, although we did find a boy called Daniel who loves Basketball.  Really loves it.

At this point my brother @petercrosby got in on the Start act:

“re: kellogs start I have personally been ensuring tesco keeps stocking it! Btw their corporate twitter account is v well done”

Before I could tweet Kellogg’s, more people began tweeting me asking about Kellogg’s Start, among them was @bradfields:

“they still make Start?!? I’m sure i looked for it at tesco and couldn’t find it. Where did you get it? Love that stuff”

I duly informed him that Asda was the place to be and seeing as I haven’t heard back from him I can only assume he hot-footed it the store I recommended, in case they have a sudden rush on Start.

I ignored all other tweets, except a DM from my sister-in-law who was keen to get in on the Start action, she pointed me towards their official twitter in the UK: @KelloggsUK

I quickly fired off a tweet to them: “I’m trying to track down an image of the Steve Cram Start box from the 80’s, don’t suppose you have one do you? Purely for fun.”

Whilst I was harnassing the power of twitter, @discuit was working the email and up to this point we still don’t have an image of the Steve Cram Start box from the 80’s.

Do you have one?  Can you help?  If so please get in touch with either of us.

There is no real reason that we need to see this, but it’s Friday and this is what Friday’s are made for.  Unfortunately I can’t offer a reward for a picture of the Steve Cram ‘Start’ box, but I (we) will be eternally(ish) grateful.

By the way, you look great today, I love what you’ve done to your hair.

UPDATE

Detective @howardrooftop has unearthed this youtube gem of a 1986 TV Advert for Kellogg’s Start

The illusive image of the Steve Cram Start box remains at large.

We now have a hashtag on twitter - #findcram

UPDATE 2

Kellogg’s got back to me via twitter and said this:

hi there, try calling 0800626066, it’s our freephone consumer helpline number, they might be able to help!”

I phoned the helpline and got through to a rather bemused girl called Lindsay, who was very helpful and pointed me towards their Kellogg’s 100 website.

Unfortunately they do not have an archive of past cereal boxes and despite her willingness to help my rather unusual request, it would appear we’ve hit another dead end.
